Commonwealth Toy Becomes Licensee
For Crazy Pet Plush Toys
AZUSA, CA -- The Crazy Pet Company has licensed Commonwealth Toy & Novelty Co., Inc. (New York) to manufacture plush toys based on its popular Crazy Pet animal cartoon characters. Under the licensing agreement, Commonwealth will market stuffed animal versions of four Crazy Pet characters -- Crazy Dog, Crazy Cat, Baby Dog and Crazy Little Kitty -- which will be unveiled at Toy Fair 2001.

Commonwealth Toy Becomes Licensee For Crazy Pet Plush Toys

Like the original cartoon figures, the Crazy Pet plush toys will present a fun, zany image, featuring bold, eye-popping colors and distinctive traits that reflect their individual personalities. The Crazy Dog character, for example, is colored red with bright blue spots and wears his trademark "cool canine" sunglasses. Each character is available in a large and small size --12.5" and 9" for the dog characters, and 10" and 7" for the cat characters.

The Crazy Pet cartoon animals have captured the public’s imagination, with their colorful appearance and whimsical, life-is-fun message. In addition to the new plush toys, they are being featured on licensed products ranging from apparel and athletic gear, to cameras and coloring books.

"We are very pleased and honored to welcome Commonwealth Toy & Novelty as our newest licensee," said Barbara Denzer, vice president of marketing at The Crazy Pet Co. "Not only does Commonwealth manufacture products of exceptionally high quality, but their expertise in the distribution and marketing end will bring a new level of visibility for Crazy Dog and the other characters in the mass market and specialty retail channels."

One of the oldest and largest stuffed toy companies in the world, Commonwealth has a network of 10 factories and distributes its products in 30 countries. The company’s licensed properties include M&M’s, Rubber Ducks, Discovery Channel and Boyz II Men.

"When we first saw the Crazy Pet characters, they immediately caught our attention because of their bright, vivid colors and attractive appearance," said Stacey Reiner, licensing manager for Commonwealth Toy & Novelty. "We felt their light-hearted, fun image and charismatic personalities would have a universal appeal with kids and pet-loving consumers."

In addition to stuffed animals for children, as part of the licensing agreement, Commonwealth will also produce a line of Crazy Pet plush toys designed specifically for pets.

Howard Finelt, Director of Licensing for The Crazy Pet Co., reported that interest in the Crazy Pet license has been growing at an impressive pace. "Not only are we pleased with the number of high-caliber manufacturers who have shown interest in the characters, but also with the very wide range of products that they represent," said Finelt. "This shows how universal and flexible the property is."
