CraZy Pet Licensing

With their good looks, winning personalities and undeniable charm, CraZy Pet characters can help any product stand out on store shelves as well as in advertisements, catalogs and -- most important of all -- IN THE MINDS OF CONSUMERS!!!

"What can I say, my crew and I have natural charisma," said CraZy Dog. "People can’t help buy admire us. They always want to pet us and play with us -- and they let us get away with all sorts of things, because all of us -- even the cats -- are so cute!"

This quality wasn’t lost on Tony DeVos, the president of Cardinal Laboratories. Back in 1995, Tony was looking for something to inject extra excitement into his company’s 50-year old line of pet shampoos. Working with Barbara Denzer, his vice president of advertising and marketing, he led a team that came up with CraZy Dog ("CD" to his friends), a cute and funky canine with sun glasses and a strong independent entrepreneurial streak.

While most dogs are content to leave their mark on a fire hydrant, CD had bigger things in mind. He wanted to build a business empire. Soon he convinced other like-minded dogs and cats to join his growing cartoon enterprise, which he dubbed "CraZy Pets."

Sales of Cardinal’s "CraZy Pet" grooming products went through the roof. Soon Tony, Barbara and their team realized that they had a tiger (make that a bunch of energetic dogs and cats) by the tail. Other companies began asking if they could put the colorful pets on their products too, and so the CraZy Pet licensing concept was born. Cartoons, comic strips and coloring books were used to spread the CraZy Pet story. The Wall Street Journal, CBS This Morning, Parade magazine and a lot of other media "big dogs" reported on CraZy Pet, and a lot of great companies came sniffing around in search of licensing deals.

But for CraZy Dog, CraZy Cat and the rest of the CraZy Pet crew, business was more about fun than fame or fortune. "Our main goal has been to make people smile," said CraZy Dog. "Let’s face it, people don’t have soft fur or cute little tails, but they do have nice smiles. We figured that if we could put smiles on more faces, we’d make the world a better place. Thanks to our great licensing partners, we’re doing that all the time."
